Sharon Perry's p2p Techniques

How to achieve very quick, accurate and effective quilting using p2p or Line Pattern techniques

This is a technique class illustrating
  • the different methods of setting up
  • various types of p2p (Line Pattern) designs
  • in a wide range of quilt areas.

Point-to-Point (p2p) is Statler-speak for the concept known as Line Patterns in the world of IntelliQuilter. I have developed a range of patterns that, when using my techniques, make the design of borders and sashes amazingly quick, accurate and easy for users of computerised quilting systems.

This course will particularly focus on some concepts I have developed to enable p2p designs to be set up very accurately and quickly by the quilter, often being able to be stitched out continuously over or across large areas of a quilt. It is quick and there will be minimal tie-offs. The quilt has a tidy, customised finish, but the time taken to achieve such a result is greatly reduced by using these techniques. This class will be of great benefit to quilters who need an accurate and professional finish which is easily and quickly achieved.

Firstly
This class shows how p2p triangles can be used in borders, squares, alternate blocks, setting triangles and zigzag pathways between offset blocks on point.

Secondly
This class shows how p2p squares can be used to effectively give what will almost stitch out as an edge-to-edge design, but the pattern is customised to fit each block.

Thirdly
The class shows how to effectively use non-continuous but p2p blocks for accurate and effective setting up in
        - diagonal ‘sashes’  e.g. the chain areas in Double and Triple Irish Chains
        - other places where block work is required
In particular and most dramatically: These last two concepts enable sashes to be very quickly set up and stitched out.

Fourthly
This is a ‘you won’t believe it until you try it’ concept. It introduces my idea of multiples or presets. It shows how you can set up your work faster than the computer can if one had to rely on ‘standard’ methodology.

This class demonstrates how to use p2ps in sashes and narrow borders to quickly set up a design
- around an individual block border or narrow border
- on sashings which extend over the width of the main body of the quilt

Finally
then there is the ‘but wait there’s more’ part: The class will also show how to use p2p ‘builders’. This concept was developed after many frustrating hours of repeatedly putting individual sashes in as blocks.
